Lawrence Edward Maly passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 of a sudden illness. He was born in Wilmington, Illinois on May 4, 1931 to Charles and Mary Ann (Friddle) Maly. He was raised in Wilmington and Braidwood, IL, until his enlistment in the US Air Force in 1950 brought him to Fairchild AFB. He served with the 92nd Bombardment Squadron during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1954.
Lawrence met the love of his life, Evelyn Lois Shaffer, at a dance. They married May 9, 1953 at Ft. George Wright Chapel in Spokane. Together, they had four children.
After his time in the service, Lawrence entered a bricklayer apprenticeship, and was a longtime member of the local Bricklayers Union. He left his mark all over the northwest and city parks with his career with Spokane's Parks Department.
Lawrence loved the Lord and loved his family. He greeted everyone with a smile and wave, loved to dance, and sang with the church choir. He had a special way with children, building lasting relationships, and will be so dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn; children: Anne Marie (Dennis) Overbay, Laura (Stephen) Nelson, and Alan Maly; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Charles Maly and Robert Maly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved son Kendal; parents Charles and Mary Ann; siblings James, Franklin, George, Theodore, Fredrick, Blanche, Louis, Charles, Ronald, and Kenneth.
